Minutes of the Meeting of the 61st Annual Members ‘Dinner and Meeting’

November 12, 2024

 

The Annual Meeting and Dinner of the members of the Rancho Bernardo Inn Men’s Golf Club was held on November 12, 2024 in the Bernardo Ballroom. The meeting was called to order at 6:45 PM by President Gregg Gattuso.

 

Welcome remarks, Introduction of RB Inn Guests – Gattuso

Gregg welcomed the members to the 61st annual dinner for the Rancho Bernardo Inn Men’s Golf Club. Gregg introduced the members of the 2024 Board of Directors. He then introduced the past presidents who were in attendance.

 

Guest Speaker:  Jamie Lemon

 

Allan Casper Acknowledged those former members who have passed away since our last annual meeting.

 

Recap of 2024:  Gattuso did a recap of the past year.

 

Secretary’s Report – Johnny Watson:

 

Johnny noted that the minutes of the November, 2023, annual member meeting had been circulated for comment by Tom Christopher, revised and posted on the website. Johnny asked for a motion to approve the minutes. MSUA.

 

Treasurer’s Report –John Kersey:

John discussed in detail the Treasurer’s report for the one-year period of time ending November 12, 2024. He reported that the Club is financially sound. 

 

Membership Report – Jerry Canning:

Jerry reported that the Club added 17  new member(s) since January 1, 2024, there were 87 members with non-December 31 renewal dates who renewed their membership since January 1, 2024.  There were 8 members who did not renew their memberships and 66 members whose membership is due for renewal before December 31, 2024.

The total membership as of November 12, 2024 was 181: 174 full members and 7 courtesy members. This compares to 181 members at this time last year.

Election of 2025 Board of Directors Johnny Watson:   The nominees were announced:  Tom Christopher, Bob Lohneiss, Bryan Murphy, Mike McKinnis, Jerry Canning, Joe Walkington, Johnny Watson, Jeff Bondesson, Roger Smith, Dave Schwartz, Scott Hamelin, and Brad Sandstrom. Johnny  asked for a motion to accept the nominees. MSUA.

 

Guest Speaker Evan Biundo

 

Presentation cash cards and trophies for 2024 Special Tournaments – Gattuso

 

Spring Member-Member winners:  Tom Connolly and Bryan Murphy.  Joe Walkington presented them with their trophies.

  

President’s Cup winners:   Jerry Canning  announced the winners, Gregg Gattuso passed out the cash cards and trophies to the winners. A flight winner: Robert Ciavarella. B flight winner: Dennis Will.

 

Annual Golf Day winners:  Gregg Gattuso announced the winners, Giri Durbhakula and Mike Foster were winners.  Jeff Bondesson  handed out the trophies. 

 

Top 10 Money WinnersJohn Kersey

John announced the top 10 money winners for the complete year.

 

After the adjournment of the formal part of the meeting at 8:12PM, raffle prizes were awarded to almost half the attendees.  RBI employees and past presidents in attendance were not eligible to win a raffle prize.

Minutes of the Meeting of the 2024 RBIMGC Board of Directors

October 17, 2024

 

The meeting was held in the RBI Veranda bar. In attendance were Gregg Gattuso, Norm Blades, Johnny Watson, John Kersey, Brad Sandstrom, Jeff Bondesson, Scott Hamlin, Roger Smith, Jerry Canning, and Joe Walkington.

Absent: David Schwartz

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Gregg Gattuso.  Gregg reminded us of the change for the November board meeting to Nov. 14.

 

Director of Golf’s Report – Evan Biundo 

Evan reported a lot going on with the past maintenance week which included punching and sanding the greens with good results.  They have  overseed and aerified some of the tee boxes as well as some of the aprons.  The first mow of the greens will not come until the 4th week of the maintenance program.  All the maintenance work is meant to prepare the course for the coming winter.  Evan is also looking at improving the course marking with white OB stakes and red lateral hazard stakes on holes 10, 12, 13, and 17.  He said this will also improve the course for the general public.

Johnny noted that the minutes of the September 19, 2024, Board of Directors meeting had been circulated for comment, revised and posted on the website. Johnny asked for a motion to approve the minutes.

John discussed in detail the Treasurer’s report for the one-month period of time ending October 17, 2024. He reviewed the cash receipts and disbursements and reported the club’s finances are sound. 

 

Membership Report – Jerry Canning:

As of October 17  we have 4 new members.  We have 6 membership renewals and 1 non-renewals.  There is one  new applicant in the pipeline.  Total membership is 180 vs 177 this time last year. 

 

Handicap Chairman – Norm Blades:

Norm reported he is checking on the four new members for rounds played and to qualify for the weekly contests and win prizes in our tournaments.

   

Tournament Chairman –  Joe Walkington:

Joe stressed player attendance is important for the awards.  We discussed changes to the low net score award and decided to leave it as it is for now.  

 

Rules Committee – David Schwartz:

No report.

 

Web site –  Scott Hamelin:

New members have been trained to use the website for tournament  results.  

 

Open Discussion:

The remainder of the meeting concerned the planning for Golf Day on November11 and the  Annual Meeting Nov. 12.  Gregg has assigned jobs to members of BOD.  We discussed the agenda and various tasks.

Minutes of the Meeting of the 2024 RBIMGC Board of Directors

September 19, 2024

 

The meeting was held in the RBI Veranda bar. In attendance were Gregg Gattuso, David Schwartz, Norm Blades, Johnny Watson, John Kersey, Brad Sandstrom, Jeff Bondesson, Scott Hamelin, Roger Smith, Jerry Canning, and Joe Walkington.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Gregg Gattuso.

 

Director of Golf’s Report – Matt Loflen for Evan Biundo 

Matt reported the sod work is done on #15 and #16 fairways and they are pleased with the  work.  These holes will remain CPO and LCP into 2025.  We asked that sand bottles be placed on the fairways of #15 and #16 so we will be more likely to fill divots.  Also we asked that the carts have full sand bottles.   Matt is working with our board of directors on the November 12 annual dinner  in the  Bernardo Ballroom.

Johnny noted that the minutes of the August 15, 2024, Board of Directors meeting had been circulated for comment, revised and posted on the website. Johnny asked for a motion to approve the minutes.

Nothing new to report and all members are qualified to win prizes in our tournaments.

   

Tournament Chairman –  Joe Walkington:

Joe proposed the 52 tournament mix for 2025 to be 8 ILN’s, 8 two man teams and 36 4 man team events.  We discussed his proposed mix and agreed to use the proposed mix for 2025.

 

Rules Committee – David Schwartz:

Nothing new to report.

 

Web site –  Scott Hamelin:

Scott commented on the charges for Go Daddy software.  Recent payments have been made to Go Daddy for website security ($479,76 biannually) and Web Hosting ($119.88 annually).  A payment for SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is due in November 2024 in the amount of $99.99.   

 

Open Discussion:

  • We continued the discussion concerning Golf Genius and the opportunity to purchase an enhanced version that would allow “real time” score keeping.  There are several choices to share the funding if we choose to purchase the software.  David Schwartz will look into it further for the next meeting.
  • The  pace of play issue was discussed and Gregg Gattuso will send a reminder to the members.
  • The  annual Golf Day and banquet details were discussed.  Gregg has assigned jobs to several board members.
  • The November board of directors meeting will be moved to Nov. 14.

Minutes of the Meeting of the 2024 RBIMGC Board of Directors

August 15, 2024

 

The meeting was held in the RBI Veranda bar. In attendance were Gregg Gattuso, David Schwartz, Norm Blades, Johnny Watson, John Kersey, Brad Sandstrom, Jeff Bondesson, Scott Hamlin, and Roger Smith.   

The following board members were absent: Jerry Canning and Joe Walkington

 

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Gregg Gattuso.

 

Director of Golf’s Report – Evan Biundo 

Evan reported that the channel work on #12, #15, and #16 were waiting to be funded.  The new JC course at Eagle Crest should open in November and Cross Creek course is now open to JC members.  Jamie Lemon, GM joined Evan and discussed the several projects he is working on.

 

Secretary’s Report – Johnny Watson:

Johnny noted that the minutes of the July 18, 2024, Board of Directors meeting had been circulated for comment, revised and posted on the website. Johnny asked for a motion to approve the minutes.

The September 16 tournament will be played at Twin Oaks and October 7th at Vineyard.  Holes #12, 15, 16 will remain GUR in the fairway only.

 

Rules Committee – David Schwartz:

Nothing new to report.

 

Web site –  Scott Hamelin:

Recent difficulties by the TD to add a new P&R to WordPress Dashboard have been corrected by erasing old P&R postings.

 

Open Discussion:

 

The SCGA has announced a $5 increase in their annual fees effective with all membership renewals due on or after December 31, 2024.  The BOD will increase annual membership of RBIMGC to $120.  MSUA

President Gregg Gattuso will send a memo with the new annual membership information.

 

A problem has come up with the concentration of walkers into the same groupings and starting holes.  It was decided the TD’s should try to spread the walkers between all groups except those starting on holes 13, 14, and 16 and limit one walker per 4 some.

July 18, 2024

 

The meeting was held in the RBI Veranda bar. In attendance were Gregg Gattuso, David Schwartz, Norm Blades, Joe Walkington, Johnny Watson, Jerry Canning, John Kersey, Brad Sandstrom,  and Roger Smith.

 were absent: Jeff Bondesson, Scott Hamelin

 

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Gregg Gattuso.

 

Director of Golf’s Report – Matt Loflen in place of Evan Biundo 

Matt reported that Dave Buckles has finished work on the #2 and #9 bunkers and is about 1 ⁄ 3 way through the other bunkers.   A part has been ordered for the Range Servant ball machine and the pro shop will continue dispensing buckets of balls until it is repaired. He will check that buckets are available in the staging area.  The channel renovation work on #12, #15, and #16 will be done when the job is approved.

Johnny noted that the minutes of the June 20, 2024, Board of Directors meeting had been circulated for comment, revised and posted on the website. Johnny asked for a motion to approve the minutes.

Membership Report – Jerry Canning:

Jerry reported 3 new members since the June 20 report up to July 18.  We have 8 membership renewals and 1 non-renewal.  There are no new applicants in the pipeline.  Total membership is 177 vs 175 this time last year.  David Schwartz proposed a motion to reduce the maximum SCGA index for new members to 32.0. MSUA. 

 

Handicap Chairman – Norm Blades:

Nothing new to report and all members are qualified to win prizes in our tournaments.

   

Tournament Chairman – Joe Walkington:

Joe continues to look at 3-4 courses for our Oct. 8 tournament.  At RBI on that date  we will play 9 holes twice because of newly punched greens.  

 

Rules Committee – Dave Schwartz:

 

David will update the Club’s local rules to clarify the treatment of balls hit on #4 and #8 that enter the shrubs and/or the vegetation from the cross-over bridge from the #3 hole up to and including the bathroom and maintenance area side of the cart path.

Open Discussion:

 

Trophies.  Gregg and David will order the trophies for the Spring Memorial Tournament, President’s Cup, Golf Day, and Anniversary Cup.  They will be ready for the November annual meeting.

 

The SCGA has announced a $5 increase in their annual fees effective with all membership renewals due on or after December 31, 2024.

 

The SCGA has increased the annual fees by $5.  John Kersey will prepare a budget for next year and we will decide how to handle it at the August meeting.
